Graham Messner, former coach at the high school level, is strongly against forcing the children into any sport. Well, be it any sport or any other discipline a child should not be made ambitious by the hurried expectations of the parents. There are other disadvantages of making a child to do a stuff he is not interested to do, which might lead him to psychological disorders, indecisiveness and frustration in future.
Graham Messner goes further to analyze a situation among grown-ups with regards to leadership or lack of one and he directly blames parents for this. As per Graham:
I dare anyone to show me how leadership skills are fostered in an organized, adult-driven scenario rather than a pick-up, neighborhood-pecking-order scenario. In the former, the adults make all the decisions and the children learn to follow directions. In the latter, the children are forced to think, argue, barter and lead.
Therefore, any discipline should not be forced on a child unless your child shows interest for it on his own.
