Toddlers must be encouraged to have more fruits during meals rather than snacks as it could boost them with sufficient iron that is required for proper development of their brains.
The study was based on 405 families, where the eating habits and iron levels of children aged between 6 months and 23 months were recorded. Then this data was compared with laboratory measures’ of the children’s iron levels.
The survey concluded that children who were fed on fruit or juice during regular meals had greater level of iron in their blood comparatively.
The results also stated that children did not eat as much fruit as they should.
1. 57% of children ate two or more servings of fruit per day
2. only 11% ate the recommended five portions of fruit and vegetables
Deborah Brunt from the faculty of medical and health sciences thus asserted that in order to avert the learning problems, which generally arises in childhood, the adults are required to add fruits in their daily meals so that they could take in more iron to fight back conditioning problems.
