According to a British cardiovascular specialist, victuals which are not tagged as ‘junk food’ too have high content of sodium present in them which is a factor leading to childhood obesity but the parents are not aware of it.

Graham MacGregor, of London’s St George’s Hospital Medical School, holds the view that its difficult to encourage children to eat healthy home made food coz they have already developed taste for processed food especially salty snacks.

Normally a child’s daily intake which corresponds to a breakfast of cereal, savory biscuits with morning tea, processed cheese and ham sandwich for lunch means that his daily consumption of salt is double than the requisite amount.

When Kellogg decided to alter the ingredients in twelve of its products, 235 tonnes of salt was removed from its food items. However, it is a different case that out of them only five got the Heart Foundation’s tick of approval.
