Malaysia has reached the benchmark of having the lowest maternal death rates in the developing world. As per the statistics, the maternal mortality rate (MMR) in the country has come down from 530 per 100,000 pregnant women in 1955, to the current 30:100,000.

The country is working up to make it all the more better, and lowering the MMR in a short period is one of the prime topics for discussion at World Congress of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, the world’s largest convention of gynaecologists and obstetricians.

As a part of the work, 42 young obstetricians presented a tour of local healthcare facilities, to review the facilities available to the pregnant women and the measures to be taken up to make things better.
