A study in the American Academy of Pediatrics has revealed an association between a baby’s gender and the effects of alcohol consumption during pregnancy.

According to the Elk Grove Village-based academy, exposure to alcohol while in the womb has a greater effect on girls than on boys.

A study published in the academy’s journal postulate that mothers who have up to one drink per week during pregnancy increase their daughters’ risk of having mental health problems by one-third.

While boys are most affected by mothers who smoke in pregnancy.
