A large number of newborn orphans die out of hunger and malnutrition due to non-availability of nutritious mother’s breast milk. But the picture will never be so gloomy now. Here’s a chance for mothers to do something for the babies who have been deprived of the anchor of their lives: their mothers.
Many a countries are embracing the concept of opening up ‘Mother’s Milk Bank Depot’, where weaning mothers can donate some milk of theirs for the sick and deprived babies. Just like the blood banks, the milk bank will pose as a great help to revive the starving babies.
The milk available in these banks will be thoroughly screened and tested for diseases, including HIV and hepatitis, followed by pasteurization at temperatures (and for time periods) that would kill HIV and other viruses and bacteria. This milk will be a life savior for premature babies and sick babies who cannot take even the formula milk.
In the light of the fact that, breast milk is the best form of nutrition for a baby, an attempt like this will be recognized as a step towards saving so many lives, which earlier succumbed to malnutrition and starvation.
So, this comes as a call for all the mothers whose babies are lucky enough to get this feed of life...they should come up and do their little share of effort to give a new lease of life to another new born.
