Ear infection in kids could now be rooted out with an antibiotic called levofloxacin. It is quite effective against the bacterium that causes the problem.
A research was conducted for ten days on 205 children aged 6 months to 4 years. These children were suffering from persistent or repeated infections.
Fluid samples from the middle ear were taken before and after treatment with levofloxacin.
Bacteria, which were identified in the fluid before treatment, were all defenseless to levofloxacin. And the treatment was recorded with 94% success rate.
The rest 6% required a change in the treatment because of the side effects.
Though the scholars call for larger comparative trials, but in light of these findings concludes that levofloxacin is safe and effective in treatment of ear infections in children.
