Hey, are you one of those parents who encourage tiny tots to view educational videos just because you want to make them sound intelligent (literary)? If yes, then you have chosen the wrong path to educate your li’le ones!
Scholars at the University of Washington (Seattle) have stumbled upon a discovery, which postulates that babies around the age of 8 to 16 months when subjected to videos like Brainy baby or Baby Einstein, actually know 6- 8 words less than other children.
Christakis along with fellow researchers took 1000 parents into consideration and verified the vocabularies of their tiny tots with a set of 90 common baby words. Out of the total babies, nearly 32% were subjected to videos while 17% of those were experiencing it for more than one hour per day.
Parents encourage their tots to view such videos by exhausting huge amount on it but (unfortunately) oblivious to the fact that their idea is taking all together an opposite path. Hence, the American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended a strict no television for children under 24 months.
In order to increase vocabulary of your children, the best possible way is to read stories for them, this will not only enhance their mental makeup but would also encourage them to read independently.
