How does it sound to you-buying a house sans stamp duty or solicitor fees? No I’m not kidding you, as a miniature house collector, Deborah Bowden, from Torpoint has decided to take the unusual step of putting the doll house on sale through an estate agent. This Victorian townhouse is currently on display in the window of R House estate agents’, available at a bargain at just £1,500. Mrs Bowden who builds these houses using a kit before electrifying it and adding the finishing touches like hand-knitted sheets and hand-made furniture says she’s been doing this from four years now. She further says:

I have five different houses now and they’re taking over the house so I promised my husband that I would sell one. I buy the kits then I electrify them with real lights and put in floorboards. I absolutely love it and I am really sorry to see it go. I’ve even made tiny miniature labels to go on tin cans which I have researched from the internet to make sure they are authentic Victorian pieces. Anybody who is into the modelling scene can still put a lot of stuff in the house and put their mark on it.

Mrs Bowden confesses that she got the idea of selling it via an estate agent after reading about a woman who did the same 16 years ago and according to Charlie Elworthy, manager at R House, some people do not realise that it is a doll’s house when they enquire about the property.

We get a lot of gatherings outside the window of people looking at it and having a little laugh. We are expecting a collector to buy it or a person who wants their children to have it as an investment.

Quite a delight for kids!
