Coping up with triplets is tough...and tougher when they are one girl and two boys or vice versa. If this happens to be the case, then your responsibility as a mother tends to increase as you need to take special care of the only girl or boy. As the chances are that the two belonging to the same sex get along very well, leaving the third one yearning for company.
After reading about Rachel in Guardian, I could relate to what a mother of triplets has to face.First she has to deal with the identity problem of the two sons and on top of that she has to make her little princes comfortable when most of the time she is excluded from the intimacy of the two chaps.
Sometimes she starts feeling guilty of the way her daughter acts...she becomes too girly, and sweet to balance with the two machos. Her daughter keeps on her calm no matter what the two guys do. She sometimes looks as if yearning for acknowledgement... she does things to get noticed among the boys.
Rachel finds herself responsible for the way her daughter is shaping up. And at this point Rachel thinks is it right on her part to make the girl extra girlish and delicate. She thinks if she is right or wrong in holding her from getting angry or violent...just because we are struck with a universal notion that boys are rowdy, while the girls have to be the civilizing force.
To this I’ll say yes, to some extent Rachel is leading to this attitude in the girl. She needs to make the three kids open up with each other. Its for the parents to make their kids learn the way of life (no matter they are twins or triplets or normal kid). For parents cannot protect them from life...you can just make them ready to face life as it comes. So even Rachel should let the boys learn how to carry their identical features and make the girl strong enough to grow with an individuality of her own.
