As said by the researchers from Barcelona, Spain, fiber supplements made with cocoa husks can effectively prevent and treat constipation among children.

The researchers studied 48 children between the age groups of three to ten. The divided the kids into two categories. Then one group was given an inactive placebo pill where as the other group was offered cocoa-husk fiber supplement. And asked the respective parents to record their toilet habits and bowel movements.

After collecting data from the parents, they concluded that children who were given fiber supplement tended to have faster ‘colonic transit time’ meaning they took less time to defecate. In addition, these kids had more bowel movements than those taking the placebo and reported fewer hard stools. Thus, they stated an improvement in constipation after a trail of four weeks with no side effects.

Not only it regulates the bowl movements, a fiber rich diet may also help lower the risk of diabetes, heart disease, and high cholesterol in your child.

Thus, you can get fiber from whole-grain breads and cereals, apples, oranges, bananas, berries, prunes, pears, peas, beans, and nuts.
