If you are taking a domestic flight in China and your baby cries, you will no longer to be able to take out your baby formula to feed the baby. This is because, baby food, cosmetics and medicine, among some others, will all be banned from carrying as hand carry luggage in Chinese domestic flights from last Friday. The new regulation was put in place to ensure passenger safety and property security, a top priority of airlines and airports worldwide. As a result of this new rule, passengers carrying infants have to request the airlines in advance so that they can get free baby milk or food on board the domestic flights.
Comestics are also now not allowed on board the domestic flights. Only quantities below 100 milliliters each will be allowed on the flights and these need to be packed in separate bags. In fact, this is somewhat similar to the liquid restrictions imposed on international flights. Medication also can only be carried in limited quantities. For instance, diabetic patients or any other patients who need to carry medication on board the flights have to hand over their liquid medication to the flight staff after they clear their security checks.
There has been so much of fuss about the upcoming Beijing Olympics. People have been protesting, threats to spoil the Olympics have been made. This new scheme is in fact timely as it puts in place stringent safety checks to secure flight safety ahead of and during the Olympic Games period.
People travelling to and within China can expect to have their bags opened up for stringent checking as no more VIP access will be granted for priority boarding.
The Olympics go live in a few months, and we all want it to go smoothly. This is not a surprise move in my opinion given the nature of terrorists to target world events like this. It is a prudent measure by China and I am glad to see them do this.
