Life has become really hectic for all. People are working day in and day out; they don’t have enough time for themselves leave alone for exercises. Tentacles of obesity has not only enveloped the adults but even the kids are not far beyond it’s clutches.
Swedish researchers revealed that in 2002, the average ten-year-old girl was 2.1 percent taller and 13.4 percent heavier than her 1982 counterpart, with a 13.3 percent increase in BMI. Boys were found to be about 1.1 percent taller and 7.6 percent heavier, with a 5.1 percent increase in BMI.
Now, this has questioned two things, firstly eating habits of the kids and secondly, the lack of emphasis on physical activity.
Kids are more interested in consuming fast food than fresh and nutritious food stuff. The cookies, the soda, the potato chips, the Doritos, the candy — it’s all to blame.
Chris Sparling in his writing added that parents have become over concerned towards their wards, they assume certain games as dangerous for instance, Red Rover, Tag, etc, and thus discourage their kids from playing such types of ‘dangerous games’.
Secondly and most important thing is the children’s interest. Instead of talking or playing with their peers, they prefer spending their time in ‘virtual world’, playing video games or surfing net.
It is indeed an adult’s responsibility towards their children to create a kind of interest in outdoor activities. Otherwise the time is not far when the little ones would be seen suffering from innumerable problems related to obesity. Hence, the adults need to wake up, that is the dire need of the hour.
