All of us know that consuming calorie and sugar laden foods, little or no exercise, smoking and drinking can cause major health problems like diabetes, heart disease and cancer. In spite of knowing all these if you are obese yourself or if you have the habit of smoking and drinking, it is likely to have an effect on your kids’ health according to study.

Children are getting obese by the day and incidents of diabetes among children are rising at an alarming rate. The health and social consequences of childhood obesity continues into adulthood.
According to the study, the beginning of atherosclerosis (often called hardening of the arteries) can be detected in early teens itself. The association is so strong and consistent that a causal relationship appears highly likely. These results indicate that prevention of adult coronary heart disease should begin with control of risk factors beginning in adolescence.
We could probably eliminate 90 percent of the heart attacks if we’d make sure our kids were eating right and getting enough exercise from the start
says Dr. Henry McGill.
Children subconsciously try to follow what they see most of the time. As parents we can set an example by preparing and eating healthy meals, try cut down smoking and start exercising. Your healthy habits would definitely rub off on your kids. After all, A healthy family is a happy family.

Thank you for this reminder of how important it is that we set an example for our children. Children model their parents, and in the U.S. we are setting a poor example. Currently 78.2 percent of men aged 40 to 59 are overweight or obese. What can we expect from our children. It saddens me deeply to read the prediction in the New England Journal of Medicine, that due to obesity, those of us in the U.S. are now expected to OUTLIVE our children. It is thought that their life expectancy will be shorter than ours due to obesity. Time to shape up!
