
A new study claims that there is no link between breastfeeding and tooth decay in babies of small age.
It is mostly known factor all around the world that breastfeeding for longer time results in causing tooth decay among kids. In reality 2 main factors i.e. — poverty & cigarette smoking by mothers during their pregnancy period puts bad effect on teeth’s of kids and thus it increases the risk of tooth decay or dental caries in them.
Researchers mentioned that further more studies are needed to be done to know how it all happens and how these factors are associated with dental caries in kids.
Scientists collected the data from a National Health Nutrition Examination survey which was held during the period –1999-2002 on breastfeeding of babies & other kids & family characteristics from nearly 1,576 kids of age 2 to 5.
The researchers did lot of studies regarding this tooth decay and found some factors that puts its effect on the teeth’s at this small age; at last researchers discovered that there was no association between prolonged breastfeeding & tooth decay among kids.
The scientists discovered some factors that increased the chances of tooth decay. The main factors are given below —
A) Poverty is the main reason for developing disease like this
B) Mexican-American kids can have this problem
C) Those kids who have not visited to dentist from the past twelve months
D) Smoking by mothers during their pregnancy
Researchers also discovered that if a baby is poor & he/she is Mexican-American than these factors can be associated with this serious tooth decay problem among kids of so small age.
