Women, who ate lot of apples during their pregnancy, provide protection to their kids against developing asthma, according to a study.

The project conducted by the ‘University of Aberdeen’ — they questioned nearly 2,000 pregnant women about their eating habits, and then monitored their kid’s health for 5 years.

The researcher’s discovered that mothers, who ate 4 or more apples in a week, reduced the risk of asthma in their kids by half in comparison to those who ate one or fewer.

The scientist’s also mentioned that they found that mothers who ate more fish during pregnancy reduce the risk of their little ones developing eczema (an allergic skin disease).

Mothers, who ate at least 1 or more portions of any fish in their pregnancy, guard their child from developing eczema with in the first five years of their birth. This provide protective shield to their kids up to 50%.

Although there is no strong base to say that apples and fish are efficient to provide this benefit and also no other eatables were said to be associated to reduce asthma or eczema in kids.

Apples are considered to be good for lungs due to its antioxidant values and the oily fish have Omega-3 oils, which is very beneficial for good health.

The team of researchers followed 2,000 women, watch their diet during pregnancy, and then monitored their children’s health.

Presently, the researchers think that — though strong association between apples and asthma does not offer proof that taking fruits in pregnancy reduces asthma rates in children, instead it offers a strong base for a balanced diet during pregnancy.

Dr Graham Devereux, one of the lead researchers, said:

There may well be another factor in the lifestyles of women who eat lots of apples that is influencing this result. But it is certainly a clear association, and it is certainly less controversial to encourage women to eat more fruit during pregnancy rather than to take extra vitamins.

The study — advices pregnant mothers to take balanced diet to have healthy baby.

The project was funded by the charity Asthma UK. The study was presented at the American Thoracic Society conference.
