a greener healthier baby

With the global warming heightening to alarming levels each day and pollution being rampant everywhere, it is really necessary that we turn a little conscious and start taking steps that will help secure a safer world for the future generations to come. That means we need to be not just eco-friendly on a larger scale but try and create a healthy environment for our children and ourselves at home as well. Especially, with a little infant in the house one needs to be really careful. Here are some simple steps you must follow:

● Breastfeed for as long as possible as the mother’s milk is the most eco-friendly food for the infant providing the perfect nutrition and the exact immunity to the baby. In case you can’t breastfeed, it is better to opt for glass bottles than plastic ones preventing harmful leaching into the milk from the plastic.
● Try to eat organic products yourself, which are devoid of preservatives, chemicals and pesticides. A baby cookbook like the Organic Baby & Toddler Cookbook may help.
● While using nappies for the baby use reusable ones, the ones with poppers or fabric lining. They are more comfortable for the baby. Another effective way can be disposable ones like Moltex or Bambo.
● While choosing clothes for your little pinky ponky go for natural fibres or organic baby clothes to lessen the exposure to pesticides and chemicals. They last longer and render more comfort.
● If you are a smoker then it is better you abhor the habit as unfiltered passive smoking can put the baby at a high risk of getting respiratory illness and allergies. Or else what would be worse is you can get the baby addicted to nicotine via breastfeeding. Both you and your spouse should quit smoking giving the child the most precious gift ever.
● Pick natural shampoos, creams and toiletries for your baby and all the family as well. Look for stuffs that contain no synthetic fragrances and colours, mineral oils, parabens. Green products are kinder to your baby’s skin, kinder to the environment, and are usually not tested on animals.
● Always try to expose the baby to pollution as minimal as possible. It is better to carry the baby around on a sling rather than strolling about in a push car. That way the little one will be up and out of harms. Avoid areas with chimneys and exhaust fumes.
● Always go for recycling. Use a wheelie bin; some recycling sorters and let the child learn how to recycle from a very tender age. When it comes to toddlers, there are lots of scopes to reuse too, you may use cereal and egg boxes for craft projects, and yogurt pots for work of art.
● Introduce your child to eco-friendly toys. Instead of plastic toys go for more environmentally sound toys like wooden ones or others made of cotton or wool. Some household objects may also make great toys too, like cardboard boxes, pots and pans, wooden spoons and sieves.
● Last but not the least, go the right way and let your child follow you. Inspire the kid by using reusable, recycled and biodegradable products wherever possible. Don’t waste paper. Give the child to draw on the back of used paper. Give you child’s surplus clothes to a friend with younger children or to charity. Refuse unnecessary packaging in shops, carry shopping bags, donate the discarded furniture to charity, use Freecycle whenever possible. Simply buy what you need and go for recycle.
